About

Balquhain Castle is a ruined tower house in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It served as the stronghold of the Leslies of Balquhain. The castle is located 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the west of Inverurie, and is protected as a scheduled monument.

Built in the 14th century by the Leslie family, who held it for centuries. In 1526, during a siege by the Forbes clan, the lady of the castle allegedly poured boiling fat from the battlements onto the attackers. The castle was burned by Covenanters in 1639. Substantial ruins survive, including a tower and courtyard walls. Set in farmland near Inverurie.
