Barcaldine Castle is a 17th-century tower house castle located at Barcaldine 9 miles north of Oban, Scotland.
Built in 1609 by Sir Duncan Campbell of Glenorchy ('Black Duncan'). Known as the Black Castle. Sir Colin Campbell of Glenure, the 'Red Fox' whose murder in 1752 inspired Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Kidnapped', lived here. The castle was restored from ruin in the early 20th century. Now operates as a bed and breakfast. Set amid beautiful Argyll scenery near Benderloch.
