About
Barra Castle is an unusual L-plan tower house dating from the early 16th century, about two miles south of Oldmeldrum, above the Lochter Burn, in the parish of Bourtie,
Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It occupies the site of the Battle of Inverurie (1308), in which Robert Bruce defeated John Comyn, Earl of Buchan.
Dating from the 16th century, built by the King family. A compact tower house later extended with a wing. Fell into ruin before being restored in the 20th century. Located near Old Meldrum in the heart of Aberdeenshire's agricultural lowlands. Not to be confused with Kisimul Castle on the Isle of Barra. Private residence, visible from the road.
