📍 Na h-Eileanan Siar, Scotland
About
Calvay Castle is a ruined castle on an islet close to the island of Calbhaigh, at the eastern approaches to Loch Boisdale, South Uist. The castle is linked by a causeway from Calbhaigh, which becomes inundated at high tide. The castle is a scheduled monument.
A small 15th-century castle on an island in Loch Boisdale, held by the MacNeils. Most famous as a refuge for Bonnie Prince Charlie in June 1746 during his flight after Culloden, before Flora MacDonald helped him escape to Skye. The ruins are fragmentary and only accessible by boat. One of the most remote castle sites in Scotland.
