Corse Castle
📍 Aberdeenshire, Scotland
About
Corse Castle near Lumphanan in Aberdeenshire, now ruined, was a fortress and centre of a landed estate in the north-east of Scotland. The present castle dates from the 16th century and stands by the Corse Burn, around 3 miles north-west of Lumphanan.
Built around 1581 by William Forbes, as dated by an inscribed panel. A tall tower house with turrets and shot holes, typical of the Aberdeenshire castle-building tradition. The Forbes family were prominent in the region's complex web of clan rivalries. The castle was abandoned in the 18th century and is now a picturesque ruin. Freely accessible.
