About
Creake Abbey is a ruined abbey in Norfolk, England, situated alongside the River Burn and a mile to the north of the village of North Creake. The abbey church was dedicated to Saint Mary. The ruins are Grade I listed, and form part of a Scheduled Monument site.
An Augustinian abbey in North Creake, Norfolk. Prosperous until a devastating 15th-century fire drastically reduced the church, with arches and windows blocked up. The abbey's end came in 1506 when plague killed every remaining canon. The site was given to Lady Margaret Beaufort in 1507 and eventually passed to Christ's College, Cambridge. Managed by English Heritage. The former farm buildings now house artisan food shops.
