About
Wyre is one of the Orkney Islands, lying south-east of Rousay. It is 311 hectares (1.20 sq mi) and 32 metres (105 ft) at its highest point. It is one of the smallest inhabited islands in the archipelago.
Built around 1145 by Kolbeinn Hrúga, a powerful Norse chieftain mentioned in the Orkneyinga Saga. Located on the island of Wyre, one of Orkney's smallest inhabited islands. One of Scotland's oldest stone castles. Maintained by Historic Scotland alongside the nearby ruins of St Mary's Chapel.
