About

Duntulm Castle stands ruined on the north coast of Trotternish, on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, near the hamlet of Duntulm. During the 17th century it was the seat of the chiefs of Clan MacDonald of Sleat. It is a scheduled monument.

Built on a dramatic coastal cliff in Trotternish, likely on the site of an earlier Norse fort. Seat of the MacDonald chiefs of Sleat from the early 15th century. According to legend, abandoned around 1730 after a nursemaid accidentally dropped the chief's infant heir from a window onto the rocks below. Views extend to the Outer Hebrides on clear days. A short walk from the road.
