Ewyas Harold Castle
📍 Herefordshire, England
About
Ewyas Harold Castle was a castle in the village of Ewyas Harold in Herefordshire, England.
The first castle on the site was likely raised in 1048, possibly by Osbern Pentecost, making it one of the very few castles built in England before the Norman Conquest. Named after Harold, the first resident lord who founded a religious house against the castle walls. It served as a key fortification in the Golden Valley on the Welsh border. The impressive motte and bailey earthworks survive. Scheduled Monument.
