About
Built in the 13th century as the seat of the Barony of Kendal, atop a glacial drumlin overlooking the town. By the 15th century, owned by the Parr family — birthplace of Catherine Parr, sixth and last wife of Henry VIII. Abandoned by the 16th century and gradually fell into ruin. The earlier castle site (Castle Howe) is visible across the river.
