The first manor house built on this site was constructed in the 15th century. Having been owned by the Walpole family since the 18th century, since 2025 it is owned by the Ellis family.

The gardens are particularly celebrated, featuring extensive rose gardens with heritage varieties, a Saxon church ruin, and woodland walks. Open to visitors during the summer months. The gardens were developed by the present Lord Walpole.
