Pershore Abbey
📍 Worcestershire, England
About
Pershore Abbey, at Pershore in Worcestershire, was a Benedictine abbey with Anglo-Saxon origins until the reformation. It is now an Anglican parish church, the Church of the Holy Cross.
Founded as a Benedictine monastery in 689, refounded in 972. The present church dates largely from the 13th century, with fine Early English and Decorated Gothic architecture. At the Dissolution, the townspeople purchased the choir and crossing for use as the parish church. The nave was demolished. The surviving vaulted choir is considered one of the finest examples of Early English Gothic architecture.
