Rathfarnham Castle is a 16th-century fortified house in Rathfarnham, South Dublin, Ireland. Originally a semi-fortified and battlemented structure, it underwent extensive alterations in the 18th century. It is in the care of the state, has been restored and is open to the public.
Built in 1583 by Adam Loftus, Archbishop of Dublin, Rathfarnham Castle is an Elizabethan fortified house with four flanker towers. The austere exterior hides spectacular 18th-century interiors designed by Sir William Chambers and James 'Athenian' Stuart. The castle later served as a Jesuit college and was restored by the OPW. It offers guided tours of the remarkable interior.
