Scaleby Castle is in the village of Scaleby, Cumbria, England. The castle was originally built in the early 14th century, and extended in the 15th century to form a substantial fortification. Parliamentary troops attacked the castle twice during the English Civil War, burning it. It was later restored to form a country house.
Built in the 13th century as a border fortress, the castle was repeatedly attacked and rebuilt. Besieged during Scottish raids and again during the Civil War. The core tower house survives with later additions. The castle is privately owned and occupied. Grade I listed and Scheduled Monument. Set in the rolling border countryside north of Carlisle.
