Scarborough Castle is a former medieval royal fortress situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the North Sea and Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. The site of the castle, encompassing the Iron Age settlement, Roman signal station, an Anglo-Scandinavian settlement and chapel, the 12th-century enclosure castle and 18th-century battery, is a scheduled monument of national importance.

TransPennine Express from York (50 min). Castle is 20 min walk uphill through the town.

Pay & display on Castle Road, near the entrance.

Follow signs to the castle from the A64 or town centre.

Dramatic headland position with steep approaches. The castle ruins are spread over a large area with uneven ground. The keep is a ruin and not climbable. Spectacular views along the coast. Not wheelchair accessible in the main ruin areas. English Heritage.
