Tonbridge Castle is a 13th century castle situated in Tonbridge, Kent, England.
Built after the Norman Conquest when Richard Fitz Gilbert was granted land to guard the Medway crossing on the road from Hastings to London. First mentioned in 1088. The impressive stone gatehouse was added in the 13th century. Besieged during the First Barons' War in 1215. Fell into ruin but the gatehouse survives with exhibitions recreating medieval life. 950 years of continuous history.
