About
Trim Castle is a castle on the south bank of the River Boyne in Trim, County Meath, Ireland, with an area of 30,000 m2. Over a period of 30 years, it was built by Hugh de Lacy and his son Walter as the caput of the Lordship of Meath. The Irish Government currently own and are in charge of the care of the castle, through the state agency The Office of Public Works (OPW).

Bus Éireann route 111 from Dublin Busáras (1 hr 15 min). Stops in Trim town centre, 5 min walk.

About 45 km northwest of Dublin on the R154. Well signed from the M3.

The largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland. The grounds are accessible but the keep interior (guided tour only) involves steep narrow stairs. Used as a filming location for Braveheart. The town walk along the Boyne is flat and pleasant.
