Wymondham Abbey
📍 Norfolk, England
About
Wymondham Abbey is the Anglican parish church for the town of Wymondham in Norfolk, England.
Founded in 1107 as a Benedictine priory, a dependency of St Albans. Centuries of disputes between monks and townspeople over shared use of the church led to both building competing towers. The priory became independent of St Albans and was raised to abbey status in 1448. At the Dissolution, the nave was saved as the parish church. The magnificent hammerbeam roof and two towers survive. Still an active parish church.
