About
The Alloway Auld Kirk, which dates back to the 16th century, is a church ruin in Alloway, South Ayrshire, Scotland, celebrated as the scene of the witches' dance in the poem "Tam o' Shanter" by Robert Burns.
A 16th-century parish church, already in ruins by Burns' time. Burns' father William Burnes is buried in the kirkyard. In the poem 'Tam o' Shanter' (1790), the drunken Tam spies witches and warlocks dancing here. Adjacent to the Burns Birthplace Museum and within walking distance of the Brig o' Doon.
