About
Askerton Castle is a medieval fortified manor house in Cumbria, England.
Built by the Earls of Desmond in the 13th century, Askeaton became the chief seat of the Fitzgerald dynasty. The exquisite Banqueting Hall dates to the 15th century, featuring intricate carved windows. The castle was besieged multiple times during the Desmond Rebellions and finally fell to Cromwellian forces in 1652. The Franciscan friary adjacent was founded in 1389.
