Canons Ashby
📍 Northamptonshire, England
About
Canons Ashby is a small village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire, England. The population of the village is included in the civil parish of Preston Capes.
Built in the 1550s by John Dryden using the remains of a medieval Augustinian priory — great-grandfather of poet laureate John Dryden. Extended in the 1590s by Sir Erasmus Dryden with lavish plasterwork ceilings. The house remained largely unaltered after the 1710s, creating a rare survival of Elizabethan and Jacobean interiors. Given to the National Trust in 1981.
