About
Carsluith Castle is a ruined tower house, dating largely to the 16th century. It is located beside Wigtown Bay in the historical county of Kirkcudbrightshire in Galloway, Scotland, around 4.8 kilometres (3.0 mi) south east of Creetown.
Built in the late 15th century by the Cairns family and acquired by the Browns of Carsluith around 1500. Richard Brown of Carsluith was implicated in the murder of the Abbot of Sweetheart Abbey in 1560. Extended with a stair tower in the 16th century. The castle was abandoned by the late 17th century. Now a well-preserved ruin in Historic Scotland care.
