Castle Stuart
📍 Highland, Scotland
About
Castle Stuart is a restored tower house on the banks of the Moray Firth, about 6.5 miles (10 km) northeast of Inverness.
The land was granted to the 1st Earl of Moray by his half-sister Mary Queen of Scots in 1561. After the successive murders of the 1st and 2nd Earls, the castle was finally completed by the 3rd Earl in 1625. It fell into disuse during the English Civil War and lay derelict for 300 years before restoration. Now operates as a luxury hotel near a championship golf course.
