About
Denny Abbey is a former abbey near Waterbeach, about 6 miles (10 km) north of Cambridge in Cambridgeshire, England. It is now the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey.
Founded c.1159 as a Benedictine priory, it was taken over by the Knights Templar in 1170, who used it as a hospital for sick and elderly members. After the Templars' suppression in 1308, it passed to the Countess of Pembroke who established a community of Franciscan nuns (Poor Clares). Dissolved in 1539. Now managed by English Heritage alongside the Farmland Museum.
