About

Fairburn Tower is a recently restored Scottish castle near Inverness and Muir of Ord in the parish of Urray.

Built in the 16th century by the Mackenzie family. A substantial tower house that dominates the landscape near Muir of Ord. The Brahan Seer prophesied that a cow would calve in the uppermost room — which reportedly happened when the ruin was used as a cattle shelter. Recently stabilised by Historic Environment Scotland.
