About
Flint Castle in Flint, Flintshire, was the first of a series of castles built during King Edward I's campaign to conquer Wales.
Fenit in County Kerry is traditionally the birthplace and departure point of St Brendan the Navigator, who is said to have sailed to North America in the 6th century. The castle or fortification at Fenit dates to the medieval period and guarded the harbour. A modern statue of St Brendan commemorates the village's most famous son.
