About
Ford Castle is a Grade I listed building situated at a shallow crossing point on the River Till, Ford, Northumberland, England.
Dating from c.1278, Sir William Heron received a licence to crenellate in 1338, adding four corner towers. Captured and dismantled by the Scots in 1385, it was rebuilt. In 1513, James IV of Scotland lodged here before the catastrophic Battle of Flodden. Lady Waterford extensively restored it in the 19th century. Now used as a Northumberland County Council outdoor education centre.
