Harbottle Castle is a ruined medieval castle situated at the west end of the village of Harbottle, Northumberland, England, 9 miles (14 km) west-north-west of Rothbury overlooking the River Coquet. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed building.
Built c.1160 by the Umfraville family at Henry II's request as a defence against the Scots. Taken by the Scots in 1174, rebuilt more strongly. Besieged in 1296. The motte may have been used by ancient Britons and later by Anglian settlers. Grade I listed and Scheduled Ancient Monument.
