About

Inverugie Castle or Cheyne's Tower is the ruins of a motte-and-bailey castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is a scheduled monument.

Originally a medieval castle of the Cheyne family, passing to the Keith Earls Marischal in the 14th century. Rebuilt in the 16th-17th centuries as a substantial residence. Forfeited after the 1715 Jacobite rising when the 10th Earl Marischal supported the Old Pretender. The ruins are extensive but overgrown, set near the River Ugie outside Peterhead.
