About
Kinross House is a late 17th-century country house overlooking Loch Leven, near Kinross in Kinross-shire, Scotland.
Built 1686-93 by Sir William Bruce, architect of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, as his own residence. Considered the first significant Palladian house in Scotland. Designed to frame views of Loch Leven Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. The formal gardens were restored in the 21st century. Private but gardens and grounds open seasonally.
