Lochore Castle
📍 Fife, Scotland
About
Lochore Castle is a ruined 14th-century tower house, about 3 miles (4.8 km) south east of Cowdenbeath, Fife, Scotland, and south of Lochore, east of Loch Ore, in Lochore Country Park.
A 12th-century castle built on an island in Loch Ore by the de Lochore family. The loch was partly drained by mining operations in the 19th and 20th centuries. After the mines closed, the area was transformed into Lochore Meadows Country Park — one of Scotland's great reclamation success stories. The castle ruins are accessible within the park.
