About

Loch Doon Castle was a castle that was located on an island within Loch Doon, Scotland. The original site and the relocated remains are designated as scheduled monuments.

Originally built on an island in Loch Doon in the late 13th century, with an unusual eleven-sided curtain wall. When the loch level was raised for hydroelectric power in the 1930s, the castle was dismantled and rebuilt on the shore. Associated with the Wars of Independence — Robert the Bruce may have taken refuge here. Set in remote Galloway Forest countryside.
