About
Mettingham Castle was a fortified manor house in the parish of Mettingham in the north of the English county of Suffolk.
Founded in 1342 when Sir John de Norwich received a licence to crenellate his manor house. An Edwardian-style gatehouse guarded its stone walls. In 1394, given to secular canons who established Mettingham College and taught up to 13 boys. Features three moated courts and a surviving gatehouse.
