About

Roche Abbey is a now-ruined abbey in the civil parish of Maltby, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It is in the valley of Maltby Dyke, known locally as Maltby Beck, and is administered by English Heritage. It is a scheduled monument and Grade II* listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Founded in 1147 by Richard de Busli and Richard FitzTurgis for the Cistercians, built on both sides of Maltby Beck. The co-founders agreed whichever side proved most stable would host the abbey. Set within the Grade II* Sandbeck Park landscape designed by Capability Brown. The Gothic transept walls survive to considerable height. Managed by English Heritage.
