About

Tickhill Castle is a castle in Tickhill, in South Yorkshire, England and a prominent stronghold during the reign of King John.

Built c.1070-1080 by Roger de Busli. The unusual 11-sided stone keep was added in the 12th century. The castle became part of the Duchy of Lancaster and remains Crown property to this day. The impressive twin-towered gatehouse dates from the late 12th century. Besieged in 1322 during the rebellion of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster. The Duchy still maintains the gatehouse.
