About
Boyne Castle is a 16th-century quadrangular castle about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south of Boyne Bay.
Built in the 16th century by the Ogilvie family, Boyne Castle is one of the largest castles in northeast Scotland. A substantial courtyard castle with towers and ranges of buildings. The ruins are extensive but overgrown, hidden in woodland near the coast. Portsoy itself is a charming harbour town famous for its marble. The castle is freely accessible but requires some path-finding.
