Findlater Castle

📍 Aberdeenshire, Scotland

About

Findlater Castle is the old seat of the Earls of Findlater and Seafield, sitting on a 50-foot (15 m)-high cliff overlooking the Moray Firth on the coast of Banff and Buchan, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Perched on a precipitous sea cliff between Cullen and Sandend, Findlater dates from the 13th century. Held by the Ogilvie family who became Earls of Findlater. The castle was virtually impregnable due to its position, accessible only from one side via a steep path. Abandoned after the Ogilvies built Cullen House in the 17th century. The cliff-face approach is not for the faint-hearted.
