About
Egremont Castle is located in the town of Egremont, Cumbria.
Built on a Danish fort site after the 1092 conquest of Cumberland. The present castle was founded 1120-1135 by William Meschin, who also established the town and St Bees Priory. Extended in the 13th century. Inspired Wordsworth's poem 'The Horn of Egremont Castle'. Grade I listed.
