Hoddom Castle is a large tower house in Dumfries and Galloway, south Scotland. It is located by the River Annan, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south-west of Ecclefechan and the same distance north-west of Brydekirk in the parish of Cummertrees. The castle is protected as a category A listed building.
Built around 1565 by John Maxwell, 4th Lord Herries, a supporter of Mary Queen of Scots. A large and impressive tower house with later additions. Set in the Annandale countryside near the childhood home of Thomas Carlyle at Ecclefechan. The castle was once surrounded by extensive policies. Now privately owned and used for events.
